Virginia was born on January 8, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Coitt and Mignon Armstrong. She was born and raised in Oklahoma City and entered the workforce at the age of 14. Her first few jobs were working as a waitress in several restaurants in downtown Oklahoma City. In 1948, Virginia began dating Benjamin Lewis. The couple married on April 6, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and were married for 31 years, until his passing on March 27, 1979.
In Virginia’s adult life, she was a homemaker and caretaker for the entire family. No matter the need of anyone in the family, she was there to do what she could to help. She was also an amazing wife and mother and loved to cook for her family. Sometime after Benjamin’s death, Virginia returned to work, mostly doing demos for different products in local grocery stores. In 2021, Virginia moved to Pampa to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Virginia was an amazing woman who loved her family dearly. She adored Elvis and would remind people her family often that the two of them shared birthdays. She also enjoyed raising her dogs and feeding stray cats, babying them and feeding them till they couldn’t move. She will be remembered as a tough, stubborn old bird who did things on her own terms.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin Lewis; and four brothers, Charles, Gerald, Karl, and Billie.
She is survived by her daughter, Elvonda Williams and husband Ronnie of Pampa; four grandchildren, Michele Sheffield and husband Mike of Sanger, Ronella Medley and husband Donnie of Pampa, Timothy Williams and wife Jackie of Canyon, Texas, and Benjamin Williams and wife Katy of Rosenburg; ten great-grandchildren, Ryan Sheffield, Erin Sheffield, Katelin Anderson and husband Cooper, Tanner Medley, Makayla Williams, Jason Williams, Madison Williams, Emma Williams, Beckett Williams, and Maxwell Williams; great-great-grandson, Aiden Medley and great-great-granddaughter on the way, Adley Anderson; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
