Vondel Switzer Samberson

Vondel Switzer Samberson, 90, formerly of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2024 in Canyon.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Borger with Rev. Jarrod Neal, pastor of First Methodist Church of Pampa officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Vondel was born August 9, 1933 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Dillard and Irene Hubbart. She graduated from Leedey High School in Leedey, Oklahoma. At the early age of 16, she married Eddie Switzer on July 17, 1950. They moved to Borger in 1952 and she lived there until 2016. Eddie passed away in 1987. Vondel was able to be a stay-at-home mom for her four children. When they were all old enough to go to school, she went to work for First National Bank in Borger. She enjoyed the banking industry and worked her way up to Vice President before she retired in 1987.  In 2016, she moved to Pampa and a few years ago moved to Amarillo and most recently to Canyon. While in Pampa, she was a member of First Methodist Church and was a member of Koinonia Sunday School Class. Vondel was a people person and was easy to visit with. She loved her family and was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Vondel had a strong personality but was loving and kind to all she came in contact with. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and having a beautiful flower garden. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Hubbart; great grandson, Hayden Alexander; and a great granddaughter, Rebeckah Smith.

Survivors include her three daughters, Debbie Smith of Pampa, Vickie Alexander and husband Curt of Canyon, and Mickie Dawson and husband Ronnie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; son, John Switzer and wife Shirley of Florahome, Florida; nine grandchildren, Robin Meek and husband Greg, Stacie Ramirez and husband Matthew, Scot Smith and wife Shelly, Kara Floyd and husband Mark, Amy Archer and husband Matt, Craig Alexander, Megan Switzer, Lindi Plummer and husband Jeff, and Joshua Smith; 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
