Wendell J. Cox

Pampa

Wendell J. Cox, 88, of Pampa, passed away on February 22, 2025, at home with family by his side.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday,  March 1, 2025, at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Chaplain Larry Virnau of AccentCare Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Wendell was born on June 30, 1936, in Ft. Worth to Ross and Ona Cox. When he was a young boy, his mother married Paul LeFevre after moving the family to Pampa. Wendell attended schools in Pampa, graduating from Pampa High School in 1954. After attending the University of Texas, Wendell returned to Pampa and married the love of his life, Charlene Russell. He then enlisted in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, Wendell trained and worked as a pharmacist. Afterwords, Wendell and Charlene moved to Amarillo where he was in the Army and Air Force reserves.

Eventually, Wendell entered the retail furniture sales profession. This career spanned many years and several different cities and states that included Amarillo, Albuquerque, and Laredo. While in Laredo, he was promoted to the Vice President position of LFD Home Furnishings. At the time of his retirement, Wendell and Charlene moved back to Pampa. Wendell enjoyed wood working and working as a gun smith at Pampa Pawn. Wendell will be remembered as a protective, loyal, dependable, and patriotic man who loved his country and family. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Leon Cox; and by a sister, Mary Beth LeFevre.

Wendell is survived by his wife Charlene Cox of the home; two twin-daughters, Beth Cox of Dallas, and Betty Rickles and husband Rick of Houston; two sons, Wendell Jerry Cox II “Butch” of Alburquerque, New Mexico, and Russell Lee Cox of Dallas; sister, Paulette Moreland and husband Mike of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and other extended family.
