Wesley Kent Schaffer, 61, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, in Pampa.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church with Kyle Ohsfeldt, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2:00 PM at Jericho Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Visitation will be at 6:30 – 7:30 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the funeral home.
Wes was born on March 9, 1962, in Pampa, to James Earl and Betty Lou Schaffer. He grew up and attended school in Pampa, graduating in 1980. After high school, Wes enrolled at Texas Tech University where he studied business and was a part of the SAE fraternity.
Once Wes finished his studies at Texas Tech, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and was a contractor for Citgo Oil and Gas. He later had his own contracting company in Washington, D.C., which led him to work for several U.S. governmental agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security. He worked in the Netherlands for some time as well.
In 2013, Wes moved back to Pampa and was hired on as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Pampa. In 2018, he married Gretchen Gnade. Wes left the City of Pampa in 2021 and had many hobbies at home. He would visit with people on the phone for hours, play his ukulele, and enjoyed listening to music often. Wes never met a stranger, and he had the kindest heart. He loved the Lord and had close walk with God. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Gretchen Schaffer of the home; step-children, Haleigh Jefferson and husband Cody of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Jason Dudley, and Ella Dudley, both of Hereford; one grandchild, Colton Jefferson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sisters, Brenda Guess and husband Mike, and Jamilou Williams and husband Marc “Tiny”, all of Pampa; aunt, Peggy Beckham of Pampa; four nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to Wes as Gooney Bird; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.
