William Herschel “Bud” Lewis, 92, of Pampa, died May 3, 2018 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 5, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor, and Rev. Jimmye Cole, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Dodson Cemetery with military honors courtesy of Volleys for Veterans under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Lewis was born October 11, 1925 in Collingsworth County, the son of Claude and Mayme Carter Lewis. He attended Kelly Community School, Dodson School and Wellington High, graduating in 1943. Herschel served in the U. S. Army from 1944-1946 in the Philippines. He was recalled in 1951 and served at Camp Polk, Louisiana. Herschel married Elva Bogle on October 1, 1950 in Wellington. He worked for Cabot Corporation from 1955 until 1988, finishing his career as a chemical engineer. With Cabot, he traveled throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Canada. After his retirement, Herschel and Elva traveled in their RV throughout the United States, including Alaska, and also to Australia and New Zealand. Herschel was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and the Aldersgate Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. Bud was known to be a gentleman and a kind and generous man with many interests, including woodworking, reading and camping at Cabot Ranch. Herschel was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Goad, who died March 13, 2018, and his wife of 60 years, Elva Lewis, who died June 10, 2010. Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Landry and husband Rivest, Wendy Cole and husband Jimmye, Molly Benson and husband Roy, and Amy Dyer and husband Bill; eight grandchildren, Jason Landry, Bryan Landry, Sarah Landry Walston, Amanda Cole Garcia, Adam Cole, Aaron Benson, Andrew Benson and B. J. Dyer; 11 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Pat Terry, and Mildred Cummins and husband Jerry; and two brothers, Ted Lewis and wife Earlene, and Dan Lewis and wife Sheila. The family wishes to thank Accolade Home Health Care and Hospice, as well as special caregivers, Rebecca Dominguez and Analilia Barco.
