A memorial service will follow at the First United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Jarrod Neal, pastor, and John Curry, officiating. Wyeth was born December 14, 1944, in Pampa, to Dr. Doyle and Irene Jackson Osborne. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1963 and received a BBA degree in accounting from Texas Tech University. While there, he enjoyed participating on the sky diving team. During that time, he also met and married his wife, Sandra Lynn Short, of Celina, Texas.
After obtaining his Certified Public Accounting license and several years working with Peat Marwick Mitchell in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Wyeth moved his wife and son, Barry, back home to Pampa, where he formed his own accounting firm. He worked nearly 15 years as a public accountant before joining 3W Oil Company. Wyeth eventually took a short retirement before moving to Austin, Texas, where he enjoyed an after-retirement job with the Texas State Comptroller. There, he was quick to make friends, and rumors were that he cheered for his daughter’s Texas Longhorns.
Wyeth and Sandra have been devoted members to Pampa’s First United Methodist Church for 50 years. Additionally, Wyeth was a long-time member of the Pampa Lions Club, and eventually became very active in the Top O’ Texas Masonic Lodge. Among his many hobbies, Wyeth was an avid gun collector. He was NASDS and PADI certified in scuba diving and held a private pilot’s license during his younger years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snow skiing. He even served as a ski patrol in Red River, New Mexico, as a young man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Janet Kampschroeder.
Wyeth is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Barry Osborne and Christy Daniel of Los Alamos, New Mexico; daughter, Leigh Ellen Lafferty and her husband Ladd of Watonga, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Lydia and Lance Lafferty; brother-in-law, David Kampschroeder of Amarillo; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He leaves behind many who called him friend but celebrates today with the Lord and many family members and friends who have gone before him.
